Got the clutch back in the Jeep a few weeks ago. Upon firing it up I was greeted with a wonderful sound indicating that I had fucked something up. A very high pitched chirping coming directly from the bell housing. I finally got around to looking at it today. Read the engine codes and they indicated a few crank position sensor faults. Weird. Pull the CPS and am greeted by this:

It seems Luk’s flywheel is a bit out of spec and was just so tenderly kissing my CPS. Fired the truck up with the CPS removed and she shifted wonderfully through every gear with no weird sounds. Very relieved to know I didn’t screw up, and won’t have to pull the trans again, but come the fuck on, Luk!

I also had to pull out the dowel pins on the flywheel, per their instructions, because they didn’t fit their own pressure plate. These guys are supposed to be OEM manufactures, which is usually a good thing. However, based on my experience with this and my original Sachs clutch coming apart, looks like you’re better off with aftermarket when it comes to clutches.

While I had my exhaust off I cut the crossover and will be installing a removable section, so the next time I remove the trans (fingers crossed) I won’t have to pull the entire exhaust off.

I really, really hate cases like that... where the vendor you depend on to “get it right the first time” totally blows their part of the assignment.

Wow! That poor Camshaft Position Sensor. How much does a new Clutch Pedal Switch cost? Hopefully the new one can handle  more Cycles Per Second. :P

Yeah. Thankfully their screw up isn’t requiring me to pull the trans  again.

I ordered a new Mopar one and am going to install a washer on the mounting bolt in order to bring it out of the trans a smidge.

Did the surgeon leave something in the patient by accident?

You will probably have issues if you shim it out.  The gap is callibrated.

That’s what I thought at first. I rotated the engine so I could see where it was rubbing, and could see metal transfer on the cast iron tabs on the flywheel.

I’m hoping that the washer will bring it to within the factory gap (since it’s obviously too close now)   . If that doesn’t work I’ll go old school moto mechanic and start using beer can shims until it’s kosher.

What’s weird is the  same thing happened to another guy with a Jeep on the internet, but he never even removed the flywheel. Almost like the transmission somehow bolted back shifted towards the driver’s side. Might just loosen all the trans bolts and see if I can pry her over a bit.
